Rather than fighting for every woman’s right to feel beautiful, I would like to see the return of a kind of feminism that tells women and girls everywhere that maybe it’s all right not to be pretty and perfectly well behaved. That maybe women who are plain, or large, or old, or differently abled, or who simply don’t give a damn what they look like because they’re too busy saving the world or rearranging their sock drawer, have as much right to take up space as anyone else.

I think if we want to take care of the next generation of girls we should reassure them that power, strength and character are more important than beauty and always will be, and that even if they aren’t thin and pretty, they are still worthy of respect. That feeling is the birthright of men everywhere. It’s about time we claimed it for ourselves.

I don’t want to be told I’m pretty as I am - I want to live in a world where that’s irrelevant (via brute-reason)

Fucking this so fucking hard.

(via afractalparticle)

we live in a society that bases a large part of your worth as a woman on your looks, and besides, the “you are all beautiful” thing has been taken over by thirsty misogynistic men so even thinking that way makes my skin crawl

dast303 replied to your post: Number one reason why I don’t watch the scale
Scales, shmales. I haven’t used one in ages, progress for me is how much of the exercise I can do. Disregard the scale, focus on just doing whatever and the progress will feel sweeter! I’ma buy wards cause I’ma support you through this! YOU GOT THIS :D

Yessss, that sounds like a good plan. I shall measure my progress by how much I wanna tap that ass in the mirror.

Let’s get a Battle Fury and a Butterfly all up in this business.

Number one reason why I don’t watch the scale

Weight is back up in the 200s.

Percent body fat decreased by 3% (I really would like to know how my scale measures this, but that’s what it says).

That being said, here are my goals for this summer:

  1. Get a great ass
  2. Get great arms
  3. Trim down and possibly fit back into my prom dress*

*But Melanie, why do you want to fit back into your prom dress? Because  I had terrible, self-destructive habits over the summer after my graduation from high school and that’s when I did the most damage to my body. I didn’t work out, I had horrible eating habits, and I wanted a reason to hate myself. Now, I’m transferring to the school of my dreams and pursuing a field of research I’m very passionate about that can potentially be physically demanding. I’m bursting with confidence and enthusiasm about my future and I want to feel just as healthy. It’s time to get active and be healthy so I can keep doing what I love for decades to come.

Actually, wrist pain is only normal depending on the previous injury. I’ve never had wrist aches because pushups focus primarily on your arms and chest. Ideally, you should be using your chest and arms to lift and not your wrists.
If your wrists are popping, I STRONGLY suggest getting wrist guards or limiting the amount of pushups you do at a time. There is no reason for you to break a wrist or sprain it because of them.
Plus, since there are alternate methods of strengthening those particular muscles (weight lifting, cardio), pushups aren’t entirely necessary if you have weak wrists.

Just did a quick comparison between push-ups on palms versus push-ups on fists. The later is loads more comfortable. I’m still inclined to only do them in sets of ten right now, at least until my hands get used to the pressure (and only on soft surfaces that won’t kill my knuckles). They’re just a convenient exercise at home since I only have a few weights at my disposal.

Wrist pain during push ups is normal and even happened to a beefy hunk like myself (Hi, Thor, nice to meet you, hi). The pain should go away after doing them enough to strengthen the muscles involved in the movement (which is my case)

But I do not like the discomfort. Make it go away noooooow.

I guess I’ll just suck it up and do the push-ups, but only because I want to eventually cosplay Donna Troy and She-Hulk and America Chavez.

briggsycakes replied to your post: briggsycakes replied to your post: So I’ve working…
Because you use your right hand more often than your left, it’s unlikely you will ever get it completely “even.” The best way would be to do more exercises on your left than your right. Personally, I don’t think it’s necessary, but it should help.

Thanks for the advice! I understand it’s unlikely that I’ll completely even out, but I wanna try for the sake of my OCD. My right bicep fits comfortably in my palm and my left is noticeably smaller, and it feels like my right is doing most of the work when I do exercises with both arms. I just don’t want the disparity between them to get worse.

Before I forget, is it normal for push-ups to make your wrists feel really uncomfortable? Like, just from doing push-ups on my knees it makes my wrists pop and creak something awful. I’ve got a feeling I damaged them through soccer because wow I don’t remember push-ups being so painful.
